Welcome to Plantation Parade!

This blog is devoted to plantation homes of the USA. We celebrate their beauty and longevity. Some of these venerable homes have withstood the ravages of time, at times abandoned, but later restored to their prior glory. Others have always been lovingly cared for by descendent's of the builders or those lucky enough to take on the privilege of owning a rare piece of history.
Our travels start in the state of Louisiana, which is world-renown for its plantations, especially those along “the River Road”. This blog honors the memory of Harnett T. Kane, the renown southern scholar who loved and lived in and around New Orleans and Louisiana. It was his book “Plantation Parade” that inspired me to begin looking at plantation homes seriously.

This blog will share with you not only pictures of these lovely homes, but also history, fables & stories and maybe even a recipe or two, letting us live for a moment as if we were “to the plantation born”.

I welcome input from the readers in the form of stories, facts and pictures. Please feel free to contact me at FoodandTravel@live.com. All input is appreciated!
